Prescript: I'm looking for someone to go 50/50 with me and move to either Ecuador, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, or Mexico where we can make a very low income go much further with a lower cost, and higher standard, of living (than living in the States on such a low income). This includes an only income of Social Security Disability (SSDI) and/or Retirement benefits. The Social Security Administration most definitely DOES allow SSDI and/or Retirement benefits, but not Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, to be sent to recipients in most other countries! There are many books about moving and living abroad available at the public library and/or at Amazon.com . Naturally, I realize we would probably have to spend some time getting to know eachother, and finding out if we're compatible, before moving abroad together. We could even have our own separate "spaces" by choosing to rent or purchase a house or apartment with separate quarters, and still save considerable money in monthly costs compared to living in the States on the same income. CRABTREE
(12/31/91 - 1/1/92)
Some people are wandering souls, like me.
I always wander back to Crabtree, like water.
Now it's almost 1992, like 1991, but newer.
Life brings me back to Crabtree, to see
The past flowing behind me, like the river.
Please, no old refrains, like bittersweet memories.
I'd rather sit by the Rice Fork of the Eel, alike,
After another soak in the hot spring, a cleansing,
Like the set-free soul of the eagle, souring,
I saw him yesterday, and he still exists to my liking.
My friend the sky, like a bosom-buddy
Who's sometimes an enemy, like a bad storm;
Enemy-friend, out with the old, in with the new;
No total dying to the old, both are good in their way.
I say there is hope, for the new and the gray.
There are also my friends the rocks and the trees;
Sentinels guarding the past and the present for now,
They consider what's below them for all posterity's,
And the wind blows by and through them kindly
Even in the rage of the rain that it frees.

BEAUTY
For the love of beauty
To counteract the beast,
But it does not
No matter how hard I try.
I feel that I am
An ugly beast,
Who is not desired
By beauty.
Try as I do
I am shunned by beauty,
While my lust for it
Goes on and on and on.
Innocence I long for
Mixed with physical desire,
But once lust springs up
The innocent are no longer.
For the love of beauty
Appearing to still be there,
While ugliness hides beneath
Their facade of innocence.
Still I long for beauty.
REMINDERS
Birthmarks,
They look so much larger
Now that I am older,
Reminding me of days
Gone by.
They bring back memories
I can't quite recall,
Like knowing there is
Something you're forgetting
That you need to remember.
Transient life reminds me
And sucks me dry,
While I struggle
To carry on
With my birthmarks.
But I don't want to recall
The mutating, painful
Travail that went into
Making them
My only inheritance.

I could ask you why
You play the same old tapes
Over and over again;
But I realized that I play mine
Over and over again, too.
We're all stuck in a groove
Repeating patterns
Of being ourselves
While we're maturing,
But staying the same.
Why do I keep playing
The same old tapes
Over and over and over again?
I'm so tired of going on and on
Without ever really truly growing
Or becoming a better person.
Life goes on and on and on;
The world's still basically the same;
We're still flowing along,
And we're all still staying the same.

The rocks are barely worn
By the passage of water
Except over milleniums of time;
So we are barely changed
By the passage of our lives
As time goes merrily by;
We don't care to stay the same
But neither do we care
Very much to change;
And life goes painfully by.
I sit here listening
To a reunion of Fleetwood Mac
As they sing, "Yesterday's gone"
Reminding me that nothing
Ever truly changes.
"Don't stop thinking about tomorrow,
It will soon be here. . .
It'll be better than before. . .
Don't you look back;"
If only I could believe it will be better.

If only I could not look back;
But I seem to live in
What little past that I have;
Thinking of lovers gone by
Like so much wind
Which leaves my life desolate
And devoid of passion;
I've become like an oasis
That's become a desert,
Reverted back to wilderness.
I'm a poor desolate, empty man
Whose life is meaningless
Even with consoling words
Without the joy of ecstasies gone by;
For after having what seemed
Like everything at the time,
It blew away and left me
Without anything,
Or anybody,
Just me.

I was born under a bad star
Life for me always felt empty
Something always wasn't right
I knew it like I was wrong
Like I was on the wrong planet
I grew up physically, not emotionally
Marriage and a child came along
Something always wasn't right

But I held on for dear life
I held on to the few good moments
Love came and went only one way
Something always wasn't right
I knew it like I was all wrong
Long-suffering hurt on this earth
I came to a crossroads of pain
Emptiness hounding me every step

And my life is now very empty
Without my daughter, all I have is

DREAMIN' MAN

Rays of the sun penetrating
The fronds of life setting
Down their shiny and flat
Surfaces flowing and reaping
Warmth along their love strands.
Fantasizing about sharing
This life with my cherished
Daughter of love for life
With dreams in awakening
Through the slumber existing.
Umpqua Hot Springs River,
Toketee Lake and Waterfall,
Full moon rising in clouds,
Clear soaking in the Springs,
Warmth radiating in our souls.
Peace ascending and descending,
Capturing the essence of night,
With days bringing kind-hearted
Joy, sharing and simple longing,
Embracing and belonging as one...
Man dreamin'.
LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY
Part One
After already knowing I was dying
Of a figurative "broken heart",
I've come to find I'm also dying
Of a literal broken heart
Yet, though of course I'm sad,
I find that I am also glad.
After all, to go on living is too painful
On this worldly "veil of tears".
I've come to know I'm too painful
On this earthly veil of tears;
Yet, though I am not sad enough to care,
I know that I am glad to be this aware.
For after having run with the wolves,
I'm tired enough to rest for ever.
Now that I'm through howling with the wolves,
I'm sure it's time not to waver
From my resolve to vacate this suffering,
Sure of the desire to leave behind all answering.
For after I sail into my final sunset,
I'll know that I left not a moment too late.
LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY
Part Two
Now that my sailing days are passé
I'll still know I'm not too soon for my date
With destiny's unavoidable release,
Sure of life's new future lease.
Then I will dance into death's fate,
Unafraid of its countenance pale,
To sing thanks into its embracing gate,
Not unknowing of my hunger to fail,
In obtaining living's true aim
Of overcoming all desire to blame.
Then there will also be no more pain,
Nor crying for true love never found.
To not greet final darkness with its gain,
Nor find peace in no longer being bound
Would be the ultimate disgracefulness
Of being robbed of joy without shamefulness.
Figuratively and literally.
THE CARES OF THIS WORLD
I try not to worry about
The cares of this world.
I try to sit in my home
At peace with my life.
I wish to realize
Unhampered desire.
I wish to experience
Unending passion.
I desire to dream
Of happiness without trials.
I desire joys without sorrows,
While unhappy life passes me by.
I long not to notice the pain
All around me.
I long not to care
About any suffering.
I dream of happiness
Without the fear of living.
I dream of life without the cares
Of this world sucking me dry of my life.
FRIENDS 1
Friends, can you visit me
Without giving me any more pain?
Can you try to understand
My wandering heart and spirit?
Will you leave the world behind
And free us both from cares?
Friends, can you anymore
Pass through my life
Without further burdening
And making my life
More unbearable?
Where is your simple-ness?
Where is your peacefulness?
Caught up in making a living
And condemning those who can't?
Why do you persist in inflicting
Your narrow, stressed-out lives
Upon those who need peace and quiet?
Can you not cease making my life
A further unbearable burden?
FRIENDS 2
Friends, I'll thank you
To share some little bit
Of peace with me;
Or leave me alone
To my grief and despair
Without further adding
To my sorrow,
Other than by leaving me
In loneliness and unloved;
For I'd rather suffer
Such aloneness
Than to endure
Anymore arrows
Of outrageous misfortune,
And travail through
Unutterable melancholy
Than to have your world
Placed upon my world
Already being born
Upon my exhausted shoulders.

Oh, friends, leave me in "peace"!
Do not encumber me
With your worldly expectations!
Leave me to die
Without your tense "company"!
Decist from heaping
Your grievous criticisms upon me!
Let me alone to carry
My travails with agony in "seclusion"!
Oh, if only I could be
In the luxury of true isolation!
If only I could bask in real release
From this world's empty "concerns"!
Stop expecting me to conform
To your shallow views of how we should live!
Quit seeking to mold me
And let me, as I see fit, carry my "cross"!
Don't further crush me
Into the dirt and tears of our spoiled land!
But gently cover me with our dear earth.
Oh, friends, let me be in "peace"!
